United by a passion for soulful and eclectic design; during NYCxDESIGN Festival, the New York based artists, designers and design dealers behind ‘Mosaic’ have merged the vintage and contemporary design worlds through a group show at The High Line Nine Galleries in Chelsea.  ‘Mosaic’ is a two-week exhibition spotlighting a collection of acclaimed 20th Century Design and award winning contemporary woodwork, ceramics, and sculpture. Fusing the experience of a gallery exhibition with a retail pop up, ‘Mosaic’ will feature debut collections and works from Past Lives Studio, LES Collection, Piscina, Luke Malaney, Studio Nordic, and Casa Patina.
Often, the works of contemporary makers and vintage dealers live in separate showroom spaces and are experienced in different contexts. But in our homes, these pieces live amongst each other and it is the contrast between them that creates a dynamically layered and lived in feeling. The designers, artists, and dealers chosen for this show are connected through their unique perspectives in that each specializes in a different time period and medium. When producing this group show, Carly Krieger of Past Lives Studio wanted to connect with independent designers and sellers whose works all had their own distinct flair.  Carly founded Past Lives Studio, selling vintage pieces through the brand’s website and instagram account, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when people were more brazen to purchase designer furniture online. Nowadays, people seem more eager than ever to have meaningful in person shopping experiences, especially when buying designer pieces for their homes. The artists and designers involved in MOSAIC predominantly exist online or have independent workrooms, and MOSAIC is an opportunity for interior designers and design lovers alike to browse and experience these unique works in person.
