UPenn and Eventscape have collaborated on creating a bridge made from glass and acrylic.
Eventscape recently participated in research with the Polyhedral Structures Laboratory at UPenn’s Weitzman School of Design that investigates the application of Polyhedral Graphic Statics in the design of lightweight glass structures. In this educational presentation, participants involved in the study will discuss the fabrication, assembly, and load-bearing capacity of a compression-dominant glass bridge constructed by the dry assembly of hollow glass units. Attendees will have an opportunity to view the glass bridge prototype and learn how the researchers addressed the challenges related to building a large-scale structure using glass as the primary structural system.
Free Registration required at: https://glass-bridge-presentation.eventbrite.com
The full scale prototype of the bridge will be on display and a research presentation will start at 6:30pm with the following panelists:
Gareth Brennan – President and Founder of Eventscape
Masoud Akbarzadeh – Assistant Professor & Director of the Polyhedral Structures Laboratory University of Pennsylvania
Joseph Yost – Professor & Director of Graduate Studies Villanova University
Mohammad Bolhassani – Assistant Professor City College of New York
Yao Lu – PhD Student and University of Pennsylvania
The presentation will be followed by a round table discussion with the following guests:
Winka Dubbeldam – Director of Advanced Research & Innovation Lab (ARI), Professor, Chair of Architecture, UPenn
Catie Newell – Associate Professor & Director of MSc in Digital & Material Technologies University of Michigan
Nat Oppenheimer – Executive Vice President & Senior Principal of Silman
Nader Tehrani – Dean of Cooper Union & Principal of NADAAA will make a cameo introduction
