Brooklyn Navy Yard / Design Thinking Master Class Series: From Inspiration to Application

Critically addressing core challenges faced by designers today, this series brings together designers from different disciplines and backgrounds to brainstorm ways in which they can immediately work towards progressive, meaningful change in their creative practices. Each session will be led by experts in their fields who will present the challenge and lead small group discussions. Designers MUST have at least five years of experience in their field of expertise to participate.

Location: Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Tuesday, May 10, 6:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Waste Reduction in the Design Process with Danielle Elsener, Founder, DECODE MFG
This masterclass provides a platform for designers to identify key issues in waste management and reduction and to embed enhanced values around natural capital bottom line investment in their practices.

Wednesday, May 11, 6:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Solving for Prototyping Challenges Throughout the Design Process with Mitchell Joachim, Co-Founder, Terreform ONE (Open Network Ecology)
As an integral part of the design process, prototyping provides a mock-up of a future product. Explore solutions involving the complex challenges experienced throughout the iterative process in this dialogue-driven masterclass.

Tuesday, May 17, 6:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Cultivating Sustainable Practices led by Athena Diaconis, Director of Strategy, HUSH Studios, with special guests
Hear from a panel of experts who have integrated sustainable thinking and processes into their experiential design projects. This masterclass will culminate in an active discussion that explores ways organizations can cultivate sustainable practices.

Wednesday, May 18,  6:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Showcasing the Importance of Social & Sustainable Design Thinking with Pinar Guvenc, Managing Partner, SOUR Studio
Inclusive design addresses issues within society and how to develop innovative ways to combat them. Developing an understanding of inclusive design practices, designers will reflect and debate on current ideas surrounding these topics in this in-depth masterclass.
