Join us on May 22nd at 9 am for a lively design panel with JG Neukomm Architecture (JGNA) and Gotham Organization at their newly-opened luxury residential development, The Suffolk. Journalist Laura van Straaten, who covers art and culture for top magazines and newspapers, will moderate a discussion between Jean-Gabriel Neukomm, AIA, founding principal of JGNA, and David Picket, CEO and president of Gotham Organization, on the rich kaleidoscope of culture, art, and history of the Lower East Side and how it has been thoughtfully woven throughout the design of The Suffolk.
The panelists will discuss their design strategies that yield an architecture that is contemporary and yet respectful of a context dense with history. Multiple design aspects of the building will be up for discussion, with the design of the lobby deriving from the photographic study of the Lower East Side, the materials used within the resident lounges echoing the neighborhood’s history, and the selection of furniture and art equally reflecting the ideas of complexity and layering, with select pieces from local galleries.
Located at 55 Suffolk Street in the Lower East Side, the 30-story tower developed by Gotham Organization and designed by JGNA includes 378 residences with 330,000 square feet of mixed-use space. As an underlying premise, Gotham Organization’s commitment to community values, community building, and excellence in design has made this a “best-in-class” project while JGNA’s carefully crafted design celebrates the past to create vibrant, modern and engaged spaces that relate to their urban environment.
