Adorno is pleased to present “THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR,” a virtual group show bringing the work of nine Spanish designers to NYCxDESIGN, 11-18 November. The collection, curated by Ana Domínguez Siemens, will be virtually presented in a brightly coloured, multi-level structure inspired by Ricardo Bofill’s La Muralla Roja. Navigating through a scenography deeply rooted in tradition and constructed with a strong Mediterranean feeling, the audience will encounter the contemporary interpretations of traditional techniques and innovative uses of local materials which provide a basis for the collection’s distinctive, future-minded pieces.
“The Mediterranean relays in natural materials, in the handmade, the texture, in the subtle yet deep choice of colors, the sensuality of shapes. Wood, rattan, tile, terracotta, linen, ceramics, wrought iron, glass – all produced locally, intuitively contributing to a sustainable world in which products are the result of a strong and passionate heritage, in which imperfections are regarded as a positive sign of humanity. In “The Rear-View Mirror”, I have tried to put together a collection which looks back at our traditions and draws these into the development of objects and furniture that belong in the future.”
– Ana Domínguez Siemens, collection curator
From digitally printed porcelain to the detailed craftsmanship of local artisans, recovered industrial materials to the poetics of memory-imbued installations, the collection highlights the experimental thinking of the selected designers and their desire to work towards a more sustainable future of design. Presented together, these pieces speak to the atmosphere of the contemporary Spanish design scene, drawing on its past to translate heritage into a modern design language.
This collection was supported by a grant from ACCIÓN CULTURAL ESPAÑOLA
